“Once you let yourself quit, you’ll think about quitting every time.”
This quote has been stuck in my head ever since a complete stranger said it to me a few weeks ago. She was referring to the mountain hill that I have to run up every day.
Okay, maybe I’m being a little overdramatic, but after almost 2 years, it still hasn’t gotten easier! How can this be?
Despite how difficult I think the hill is, I’m not a quitter. Whether I’ve run 2 miles or 22 miles, I’ve always run up it. I would be lying though if I said I haven’t had those days where a million excuses go thorough my head as to why I should quit. It would be so much easier just to walk up it.
However, in the past two weeks, those negative thoughts have slowly disappeared. Instead, I hear the stranger saying the quote to me, EVERY time. It’s the weirdest thing! The minute the incline begins, my breathing becomes labored, and my heartbeat is pumping like crazy, I hear her saying, “Once you let yourself quit, you’ll think about quitting every time.” I don’t want to get into the habit quitting and thinking about quitting.
It might not be easy, but I’m never sorry when I make it to the top without stopping.
Have you ever found strength from someone or somewhere unexpected?
Random, but I had to include this…I enjoy a lot a of good indie music. Lord Huron is one of my current faves! I thought this song…well at least the name, fit this post well. Enjoy.

I’ve never had anything like that happen to me, but I love that quote! It is so true!
Wise words! I’ve been inspired by many people I’ve never met, largely though reading blogs.
That is one intense hill! It’s pancake flat around here, although I sometimes with I was forced to run up hills. I know you’ll be stronger for it!
Now that quote will stick with me! Thanks for the mantra for the week. It is getting COLD again here, and I need to tell myself that once I blow off my running due to the cold, I will think about doing it every time.
thanks!
That is a quote to live by for sure thanks for posting.
Great words of advice! I love how motivation comes in the most unexpected places. No hills like that in around Tampa! I am goin to have to drive an hour north to find anything close!
That is a wonderful quote!!! Thanks so much for sharing this great story!! I know I’ll be saying that to myself from now on!!!! Kudos to you for killing that hill!! <3
Oh this is a deep post for a Friday- I know that feeling of the hill taunting you. I have a 3 mile climb near my house that I haven’t conquered yet. Close, but it still beats me. I will get it eventually!
Great advice! I’m glad you don’t quit while running up the hill! Keep it up
